Mogo/RSU suffered a 3–5 defeat to Kyiv Capitals in an Optibet Hockey League away game on Monday. Goals for Mogo/RSU were scored by Aleksandrs Biškins, Elviss Želubovskis, and Niks Feņenko.

Kārlis Mežsargs guarded the Mogo/RSU net for the second consecutive game, while Capitals’ goal was defended by Nazar Boiko. Early in the match, Kaspars Ziemiņš created a good opportunity, skating around the net and attempting a backhand shot, but Boiko made the save. In the ninth minute, the home side opened the scoring. Eduards Jansons assisted Vitalii Andreikiv, who fired from the middle of the zone through traffic to put Capitals ahead. Shortly after, Reinis Lejnieks generated a dangerous chance, with Ernests Krūms redirecting his shot, but Boiko again denied the visitors.

At the start of the second period, Ivan Shamardin tripped Ziemiņš, and after coincidental penalties, Mogo/RSU earned their first power play. Gatis Sprukts and Jānis Zemītis both tested Boiko, who remained solid. Moments later, Capitals were penalized for too many men on the ice. Mogo/RSU capitalized on the advantage, as Biškins redirected Feņenko’s shot from the right side to level the score. The tie lasted only 17 seconds — Denys Honcharenko set up Andrii Kryvonozhkin, who restored Capitals’ lead with a precise finish.

Capitals continued to press, but Mežsargs produced a series of impressive saves, denying Bajaruns, Danils Tsarkovskyi, and Rustam Begov. Nevertheless, the hosts extended their lead when Mykhailo Kovalchuk tipped in Renārs Cipruss’ shot. Mogo/RSU responded on the power play, as Želubovskis’ effort deflected off Alberto Colli’s skate and slipped past Boiko.

In the third period, Kristaps Jākobsons received a five-minute penalty for boarding Kovalchuk. Capitals briefly played four-on-four due to an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, during which Feņenko, Krišjānis Rēdlihs, and Zemītis all came close, but Boiko stood firm. Capitals eventually converted their advantage, with Daniels Fursa finishing Rustam Begov’s pass into an open corner.

Feņenko later cut the deficit to one goal after intercepting the puck in the offensive zone and beating Boiko. Mogo/RSU pushed for an equalizer, but Cipruss sealed the victory for Capitals with a counterattack goal, securing a 5–3 win.

Reinis Lejnieks was named Mogo/RSU’s best player, while Nazar Boiko earned the honors for Capitals.

Mogo/RSU will play their next game on Wednesday, February 25 at 19:00, facing Tallinn Panter on the road.
