On Saturday, Mogo/RSU defeated Prizma 10–4 at home at Mogo Hall in an Optibet Hockey League game. Kaspars Ziemiņš scored three goals for Mogo/RSU, while Rolans Vasiļjevs, Elviss Želubovskis, Krišjānis Rēdlihs, Ernests Krūms, Kristaps Sotnieks, Jānis Zemītis and Kristers Ansons each added one.

After a longer break, Rūdolfs Lazdiņš returned to the crease for Mogo/RSU, while Prizma entrusted their net to Arginto Milbergs. The hosts took the lead already in the third minute, when Renarts Bērziņš delivered the puck to the front of the net, where Rolans Vasiļjevs beat Milbergs. Māris Bičevskis and Deivids Sarkanis both had breakaway chances against the visiting goaltender, but neither managed to score. Midway through the period the puck also found its way into the home net, as Roberts Jekimovs fired a powerful shot over Lazdiņš’ glove. Before the end of the period, Mogo/RSU regained the lead — after a pass from Kaspars Ziemiņš, Elviss Želubovskis’ shot hit the target.

In the second period, Prizma conceded three more goals. On the power play, Mogo/RSU spent extended time in the offensive zone and took several shots until Želubovskis passed to the middle of the left faceoff circle, from where Krišjānis Rēdlihs slammed the puck into the net. Just nine seconds later, Jānis Ziemiņš found Ernests Krūms at the far post from the left side boards, and Krūms’ deflection sent the puck past Milbergs for the fourth time. Strong teamwork then produced the fifth goal as well — Želubovskis threaded a sharp pass into open space in front of the net, where Kristaps Sotnieks finished accurately.

The third period began with a change in the visitors’ goal, as Martins Eldmanis replaced Milbergs. In the opening minutes, Kaspars Ziemiņš extended the lead, before Emīls Ločmelis scored the second goal for the hosts conceded. Soon after, Gustavs Moruzs and Jekimovs, with another powerful shot from the right circle, added Prizma’s third and fourth goals, briefly sparking hope for the visitors. The home side, however, quickly extinguished it, scoring four more goals against Eldmanis in the final four minutes. The seventh goal was netted by Zemītis, Ziemiņš found an unguarded corner, and 25 seconds later Kaspars completed his hat trick with a beautiful solo effort. The final touch came shorthanded, when Kristers Ansons elegantly dekeed Eldmanis to make it 10–4.

Elviss Želubovskis was named Mogo/RSU’s best player with five points, while for Prizma the best player was the two-goal scorer.

Mogo/RSU will play their next game on Wednesday, January 28, at 6:30 PM, facing the Liepāja hockey team away from home.
