Technology and innovation company Tet has launched cooperation with Latvian healthcare institutions and is developing new artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for the healthcare sector. As part of this new strategic direction, Tet is already implementing several practical projects that will help healthcare institutions modernise their daily processes, reduce administrative burdens, improve the patient experience and protect patient data.

Healthcare is one of the sectors with the greatest potential for artificial intelligence, particularly in areas that require the processing of large amounts of information and data, accurate documentation and high-quality customer service. At the same time, the healthcare sector has stringent requirements regarding data security and the uninterrupted availability of services. Therefore, when developing AI solutions for healthcare, Tet pays particular attention to ensuring their compliance with European Union data protection and security requirements.

“In the future, artificial intelligence in healthcare cannot rely solely on solutions provided by foreign cloud platforms. To ensure the continuity of medical services, healthcare institutions need confidence that patient data is processed in a secure local environment and that the computing capacity required to develop and maintain these solutions is regularly available. This is precisely where the worlds of technology and healthcare converge: Tet’s expertise in data centres, cloud services and the provision of secure, critical services enables us to develop artificial intelligence solutions that strengthen Latvia’s digital independence and the resilience of its healthcare system,” says Pauls Jansons, Director of Tet’s Artificial Intelligence Development Department.

Improved customer service in healthcare

One of Tet’s projects in the field of artificial intelligence and healthcare is “AI: Voice”, developed in cooperation with Professor Skride’s Heart Clinic, a partner from the healthcare sector. The project will provide a solution for efficient customer service at the clinic, easing the workload of both administrative staff and physicians.

The AI solution will support administrative staff in managing patient appointments, while helping physicians obtain and compile information about patients before their visits. To develop the solution, Tet’s data scientists are training artificial intelligence models for text-to-speech conversion, automatic speech recognition and transcription. The resulting technology will be suitable for integration into healthcare institutions’ customer relationship management systems.

AI will also be able to improve the accuracy of diagnosis codes

Meanwhile, Tet has developed the “AI: Code” project in cooperation with Daugavpils Regional Hospital. It will function as an AI assistant for healthcare institutions and physicians, supporting the entry and classification of patients’ diagnosis-related groups (DRGs) to ensure the most accurate possible recording of DRG codes in healthcare systems.

In developing “AI: Code”, Tet uses large language models and a RAD system that retrieves and compiles medical information from various data sources and classifies it according to the DRG system. By automating these tasks in hospitals, the “AI: Code” assistant will help reduce the costs associated with manual work and minimise human errors in data entry and processing.
