Three games have been played in the Optibet Hockey League final series between Mogo/RSU and Jelgava’s Zemgale/LBTU. The Riga side opened with two consecutive wins, but the Jelgava team hit back with a convincing victory in Game 3.
In the opening final at Mogo’s home arena, the Riga side claimed victory 3-1. Goals were scored by Niks Feņenko, Kristers Ansons and Elviss Želubovskis, with Kārlis Mežsargs guarding the net.
The game was shaped by power play execution. Jelgava took the lead first when Gatis Gricinskis converted on the power play, firing accurately past the far post. However, Feņenko equalized late in the first period after a rebound deflected off Meija’s leg. In the decisive third period, Ansons found the net when Meija screened goaltender Ozols, while Želubovskis sealed the result into an empty net following a pass from Zemītis.
The second final went all the way to a shootout, with Mogo/RSU prevailing 5-4. Goals in regulation were scored by Vladimirs Zaicevs, Timurs Solostejs, Aleksandrs Biškins and Reinis Lejnieks, while Gints Meija and Deivids Sarkanis converted in the shootout.
It was a dramatic affair — both teams took the lead three times, and the score was levelled three times in response. Jelgava went ahead twice in the first period, with the home side equalizing on both occasions. In the second period, Zabusovs again gave Zemgale the edge, only for Biškins to restore parity once more — 3:3. In the third period, Lejnieks put Mogo/RSU ahead, but Millers equalized with four minutes to go. Overtime produced no winner, and in the shootout Meija and Sarkanis delivered the decisive strikes to secure the win for Mogo/RSU.
In Game 3, played in Jelgava, the home side claimed their first win of the series with a 3-1 victory. Želubovskis scored Mogo/RSU’s only goal.
Zemgale/LBTU opened the scoring in the second period when Gricinskis fired into the top corner after a pass from Zabusovs. In the third period, Zabusovs was involved again, setting up Gricinskis for the second goal into the near top corner. Želubovskis pulled one back to make it 1-2, but Jelgava closed out the game with Marenis firing into an empty net. Mežsargs guarded the Riga goal throughout, while Jelgava’s Aksels Ozols delivered an outstanding performance between the pipes.
Game 4 of the series between Mogo/RSU and Zemgale/LBTU is set to take place on Tuesday, April 14, at 19:00 at Jelgava Ice Hall.

Founded in 2014, Mogo/RSU has become one of the strongest and most decorated hockey clubs in Latvia. The team won the Latvian championship in its very first season and repeated the achievement in 2019, 2024, and 2025. From 2016 to 2017, Mogo/LSPA claimed the Latvian Cup three years in a row, defeating HK Kurbads in each final. The founder and president of Mogo/RSU is Māris Martinsons, who is also a board member of the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation. The team’s head coach is former Latvian national team player Ģirts Ankipāns.
