On Sunday, March 29, the Latvian Boxing Championship 2026, organized by the Latvian Boxing Association (LBS), concluded for youth (U19) and adult competitors.
Romāns Iļjins, competing in the 65 kg weight category, was named the best boxer in the U19 division.
The best U19 team was Daugavpils Sports School, coached by Ritvars Šulga.
In the Elite division, Nikolajs Zamjatins, also competing in the 65 kg category, was named the tournament’s best boxer.
The best team in the Elite group was boxing club Olimpiskā cerība (Riga), led by coach Iļja Žilinskis.
Rolands Norkus was named the best referee of the tournament.
Continuing a tradition introduced last year, boxing veterans Aleksandrs Knohs and Vladimirs Šperliņš were honored for their lifetime contribution to boxing.
Special prizes were provided by combat sports equipment store Budoland – gold medalists received gift cards.
The competition took place in both men’s and women’s categories. A total of 28 boxing clubs participated, with more than 150 athletes from cities across Latvia, including Riga, Daugavpils, Liepāja, Ventspils, Jelgava, and others.
“Thank you to everyone involved in organizing the championship, especially our Secretary General Ņikita Versockis. Over the four days, we witnessed exciting and evenly matched bouts, confirming the growing level of athlete performance. This year, to ensure greater objectivity, we also invited referees from Lithuania, and we plan to continue this practice. We will soon begin preparations for the next major competitions – the youth championship in Liepāja and the Latvian Youth Olympic Games in Valmiera,” said Gatis Gudermanis, President of the Latvian Boxing Association.
