In the Polish city of Koszalin, an international boxing event took place where a joint team of Latvian and Czech boxers faced the Polish national team. After an intense series of bouts, the home side secured a 16:8 victory.
Although the Polish team proved stronger overall, the Latvian athletes demonstrated determination, fighting spirit, and strong technical skills in the ring.
One of the standout performances came from Latvian boxer Nikolajs Zamjatins, who showcased excellent form by forcing his opponent to withdraw in the second round due to a clear and overwhelming advantage. His victory was the most impressive achievement for the Latvian squad at the tournament, underlining his technical and physical superiority.
The Latvian national boxing team returns from the competition and the preceding training camp with valuable international experience, added motivation, and readiness to prove themselves at the upcoming European U19 Championships, which will be held from September 28 to October 10 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
“These competitions were an essential part of our preparation ahead of the European Youth Championships in Ostrava. They gave the team an opportunity to test their strength against high-level opponents, evaluate tactical decisions, and gain important international experience that will certainly help the Latvian U19 team perform better at the most significant tournament of the year,” said Nikita Versockis, Secretary General of the Latvian Boxing Federation.
