From September 28 to October 10, the city of Ostrava in the Czech Republic hosted the first European U19 Boxing Championships, organized by the newly established World Boxing European Confederation. The tournament brought together 294 athletes from 33 countries, making it a major event in youth boxing on the continent.
The Latvian Boxing Federation (LBF) organized the Latvian national team’s participation, ensuring young athletes could represent the country at the highest European level in the U19 category. Latvia was represented by eight young boxers, led by head coach Ritvars Šuļga.
Latvia’s biggest success came from Nikita Prohovskis (85 kg), who reached the semifinals after victories over opponents from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany. In the semifinal, he was defeated by Greek boxer Ioannis Poumpouridis, securing a bronze medal for Latvia.
“We are truly pleased and proud that our U19 team returns home with a medal. Thank you to Nikita Prohovskis for his performance and resilience throughout the tournament.
